Damien G. Chabauty a obtenu son baccalauréat en Art Visuel à l’Université Concordia (Montréal) en 2022. Son médium principal étant la peinture, il emprunte aux styles du surréalisme, du brutalisme et du minimalisme en repensant la surface plane de la toile. L’artiste pousse sa recherche esthétique vers les limites physiques des œuvres donnant naissance à des pièces hybrides à mi-chemin entre la peinture et la sculpture.
La fascination qu’a Damien G. Chabauty pour le design et l’architecture le pousse à explorer les diverses propriétés qu’offrent les matériaux, ainsi que les manières de les manipuler. Les peintures de Chabauty incorporent des éléments architecturaux, qui pour l’artiste représente une transgression de les frontières entre objet, art, l’espace que ses œuvres occupent et le spectateur.

Damien G. Chabauty obtained his bachelor in Studio Arts at Concordia University (Montréal) in 2022. His main medium being painting, he borrows from various styles, namely surrealism, brutalism, and minimalism, all the while he rethinks the flat surface of the canvas. The artist pushes his aesthetic research towards the physical limits of his artwork, creating hybrids halfway between painting and sculpture.
Chabauty’s fascination for design and architecture pushes him to inquire what possibilities his materials offer, and how to manipulate them. His paintings often incorporate architectural elements which for him represent a transgression of the art vs. object frontier, the space occupied by his work and its relationship to the public.
